5 Reasons Why Eating Pickles Is Good for Health

Is every morsel of food that we put into our mouths a grenade waiting to go BOOM?

Going by the flood of dietary advice available, it would seem so; there are so many foods that are now taboo, that there's barely anything that one can eat without worrying about repercussions.

So, are we not to eat at all? The trick is to eat not just well, but wisely. Common sense tells us that foods like pickles have been around forever. Maybe when Early Man went out to hunt and brought home the wild hog, or buffalo, the waiting family polished it off with their favourite pickle! So when did they suddenly become 'poison'?

Setting aside wild conjecture, pickling is an ancient culinary art and one of the oldest methods of preserving food. This was the way for mankind to enjoy seasonal fruit and vegetables throughout the year, or conserve a bountiful crop which could not be consumed immediately, in the absence of refrigeration.

Pickles and the traditional Indian Meal

No Indian meal is complete without a pickle of some sort or the other: sweet, sour, sweet and sour, spicy, super spicy, hell-fire... you name it! Summers in India are hot and the accompanying water shortages limit food production. Pickling must have started to beat the shortage and high cost of scarce vegetables and fruits. Summers have now come to mean pickles.

Every part of India has its own method of making pickles. With the migration of people from one region to another, evolution of cooking methods, etc., Indian pickles have evolved into a fine art; the finest that can tickle your palate and put zest into the most mundane meal.

The most popular pickles

Indians can make a pickle out of just about anything edible! But the king of fruit, the mango, makes the king of pickles without a doubt. Mango pickle is a popular add-on to any meal.

The Tomato is the Queen of vegetables; it is one of the most universally used vegetables in India. Tomato pickle must also take pride of place in the pickle parade.

Why should we talk of only 'common' pickles? The exotic South of India is renowned for Gongura pickle. Roselle, or gongura, is an iron-rich leaf. Gongura pickle is the domain of expert picklers and pickle connoisseurs!

Are pickles bad for you?

Modern 'health gurus' condemn pickles as being high in sodium and oozing oil. It is important to remember that pickles are a part of the Indian traditional meal and have been around for at least 5,000 years. There is now a renewed interest in traditional methods of cultivation and eating. We now understand that every culture has optimized its diet and eating patterns to suit the region it lives in, including the local flora and fauna, and the local climate.

Here are 5 benefits to adding that piquant pickle to your plate and palate!

#1. Pickles preserve the supply of essential minerals and vitamins, the innate nutritive wealth of the vegetable or fruit being pickled.

Mangoes are rich in vitamins A, C, K and B-6, folate and fibre.

Tomatoes are a good source of the vitamins A, B6, B3, C, & E, innumerable minerals like magnesium, chromium, folate, potassium, copper, iron, zinc, phosphorous, to name a few.

Gongura contains Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, & C. It is also rich in iron, calcium, phosphorous, potassium and magnesium.

Just remember: these pickles are not just about taste; they preserve sizeable amounts of nutrition as well.

#2. Antioxidant Protection: Raw, unripe fruits and vegetables go into the making of pickles. This makes them rich in antioxidants- micronutrients that help in protection against free radicals or unstable chemicals that are formed in our bodies during the natural process of cell activity. Free radicals lead to cell damage and result in disease.

#3. Probiotic-rich: pickling is a kind of fermentation where helpful bacteria help to break down hard to digest cellulose in foods. Pickling can also help to introduce beneficial bacteria into our gut. It is no wonder that after a dose of antibiotics following an illness, a dash of pickle in hot rice is what we crave for most! The friendly bacteria rejuvenate our taste buds and our digestion. This is the probiotic positivity of the best tomato or mango pickle!

#4. Great during the early stages of pregnancy: A tangy pickle, packing a punch is what nature ordered to deal with morning sickness during pregnancy. Pregnant mothers are required to eat well but the surging hormones and accompanying nausea makes this such a difficult task. Mango pickle, in particular, has proved to be the right antidote for this.

#5. Health follows happiness. Satiating hunger and a fulfilling meal are not just a physical need- it is a mental one. It is no wonder that comfort food always includes the pickle that tantalizes your taste buds. The meal that follows a tiring day at work, or the craving for the foods of Home in a foreign land, mouth-watering reminiscences of childhood summers, loving

memories of the soft lap of your grandmother... all these are intrinsically linked to the pickle that marked a satisfying meal.

The mantra for a healthy diet should be: No Fasting, No Feasting. Moderation is the best path to health and happiness.

So, unless your doctor has specifically banned pickles, feel free to enjoy that dash of comforting taste!

Pickle making is a long and laborious process. In today's world of hustle and bustle, constricted kitchens, and demanding careers, of course it is difficult to set time aside. Fortunately, you can buy the best tomato, mango and gongura pickle from a reputed store.

A note of caution: make sure that your bottle is not pickling chemicals and preservatives. This is what most mass manufacturers do to ensure a long shelf-life.

The other point to consider is the freshness of the ingredients. Oil, in particular, tends to turn rancid and the pickle goes stale. NOT the best!

Add the Miracle of Coconut Into Your Daily Healthcare Routine

The first step in trying coconut oil, is finding the perfect kind for your needs. The absolute best product on the market will be organic and virgin. Obviously, organic products are a better option because they are the most natural. This means that there will be no added chemicals or ingredients that make the product less safe.

Many do not understand the difference between virgin and refined products. Simply put, a virgin coconut oil will be extracted from the fresh milk of the fruit and will be left unrefined. Regular products will be made from copra, which is the dried kernel of the fruit. The copra is pressed, extracting the oil which is then refined, bleached, and deodorized.

Though the refined products can be used in many of the same ways, they have unnecessary chemicals added. However, it can often be more expensive and difficult to find virgin options. The best way to purchase the most natural product as possible is to purchase through a health food store or retailer. You can find many great retailers available online that will ship the products straight to your door.

Once you have your oil, you will want to learn more about the many uses of the product. Of course, as with most oils, you can use yours for cooking. This is a great option for vegans or vegetarians as there are no animal fats used. Also, it does not product any harmful byproducts when heated.

Also, if you are emitting animal products in your diet, it can be a great replacement for butter. In most recipes, you can use the exact ratio of coconut oil as you would butter. The big benefit is that it is much healthier alternative. You will ingest less calories and it will be much more beneficial to your body overtime.

Coconut has also been shown to be extremely beneficial to your skin. One of the biggest uses is for treating eczema as it will reduce the itchiness, pain, and flakiness of many skin conditions. This can also be a great, safe alternative to handling cradle cap in babies. The product is safe enough for their sensitive skin and is more natural than other products on the market.

Other similar skin issues you can use the product on are sunburn, acne, as shaving cream, and as an after shave. Many also use it to help with softening and preventing stretch marks. It is safe to use on skin during pregnancy and is a great natural product to carry through into your postpartum routine. Overall, it can add moisture to pretty much any condition that causes dry, rough, or damaged skin.

Another great use for coconut oil is as a hair conditioning treatment. If you are a dandruff sufferer, you can benefit greatly from adding the product into your hair care routine. It can help ease itching and flaking. As previously mentioned, it can safe to be used on cradle cap or flaky scalps in children.

Even if you do not suffer from scalp issues, you can benefit from doing deep conditioning treatments with the product. Coconut has been shown to condition, strengthen, and repair your hair overtime. Putting a thicker coat of the product on your hair and allowing it to sit for some time before rinsing can leave you with shinier, stronger hair. Also, it can be used in small amounts to tame frizz, which can help you avoid the chemicals of hairsprays and other products.

Curing Acne By Adopting a Vegan Diet

You've probably heard a lot about the benefits of adopting a vegan diet from countless articles on the internet. Some of these include more energy, weight loss and a lower risk of heart disease and cancer.

Apart from these, going vegan will help you discover a whole host of benefits for your skin. By embracing a healthier vegan lifestyle you can get glowing acne-free skin. If you are someone who has struggled with acne, you've probably tried everything- from harsh chemicals, facials, and various skin treatments- to help solve the problem. You may be washing your face regularly, paying for expensive facials and doing everything right, but still have new spots on your face every morning.

Impact of your Diet on acne

You may not realize that your diet, particularly dairy foods could be the reason behind your constant breakouts. There is a significant link between the foods we ingest and the condition of our skin.

Studies have found that there is a link between giving up dairy and improving your skin's health and overall appearance. Milk has an abundance of hormones and can cause insulin spikes. It can also lead to excess sebum oil production and accumulation of dead skin cells which contribute to acne.

Breaking certain bad habits can help you get clear skin. A high-fat diet can lead to poor circulation and contribute to acne by clogging pores. Start by cutting down on Junk food and adopting a low-fat diet, and you will soon begin to notice your skin clearing up.

Certain carbohydrates can also lead to acne and breakouts.High-glycemic index carbohydrates such as white bread can spike your insulin levels and blood sugar. It is better to opt for low-glycemic carbohydrates like brown rice and whole wheat pasta, which are digested more slowly and keep blood sugar levels steady. High glycemic foods can lead to sharp increases in insulin levels which are known to increase the production of androgen and directly cause acne.

Cutting out fats, dairy, and high-glycemic index carbohydrates can have a miraculous effect on your skin. This diet has almost immediate effects and prevents future breakouts.

Advantages of Vegan diets

A balanced, vegan diet may hold the answer to clear skin. Adopting a plant-based diet has a tremendous impact on health and can help prevent several chronic diseases. Vegans also tend to consume more fruits and vegetables which are high in vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients that are essential for skin health. The fiber from produce and whole grains flushes out toxins and gives you a healthy glow.

Healthy vegan meals contain vitamin C, which is powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants protect skin from damaging free radicals. They also help prevent wrinkles and age spots, promoting a youthful appearance. Also, seeds and nuts such as walnuts, sunflower seeds, almonds and flax seeds are packed full of Vitamin E.

Eating more plants and fiber and reducing your consumption of non-vegan foods leads to a reduced risk of diabetes, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, heart disease and certain cancers. It can also lead to weight loss and drastically improve the health of your skin.

A vegan diet involves cutting out all animal products such as meat, dairy, and eggs. Many of these have been found to carry various strains of pesticides, hormones, and bacteria. Some animal products can also increase inflammation, by increasing insulin levels, which contributes to acne.

Also, meats increase the production of acid which increases your body's pH above the ideal level. This excess acid can increase inflammation and lead to more breakouts. A vegan diet is also very low in saturated fat, which is found in abundance in animal products.

So increasing your intake of vegan foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and beans and cutting out dairy products and meat can give you healthy skin that glows from within.

It is important to eat balanced, non-toxic food if you want to cure acne permanently. Eating healthy food on a regular basis will clean out your digestive tract so the toxins will expel themselves naturally instead of going through the skin.

If you have been following a vegan lifestyle consistently without seeing results, try giving up wheat and gluten. Many vegan foods contain wheat and gluten which can make your acne worse.

Also, certain foods may be labeled as vegan, but this does not mean they are good for you. Check the ingredients carefully for any acne aggravating ingredients. A vegan diet is touted by many as being the healthiest way to eat. Through some trial and error, and by paying attention to the signs your body gives you, acne and breakouts will soon be a distant memory.

The Connection Between Hormones and Acne

Acne is basically a term that is used to define the most common disorder that is increasingly spreading worldwide. After years of suffering and research, doctors and dermatologists all over the globe gave their possible suggestions and cure to treat this disturbing phase.

It is a complicated situation for the patient, as he is going through a phase which is ruining his appearance, and on the other hand, he cannot find a reliable cure for it. However, it is a confirmed and renowned fact now that this skin disorder is caused due to the hormonal disturbance inside the human body. This is one of the core reasons why this issue is not seen in every individual.

There is no doubt in the fact that it leads us to the point where you just want to slather your face with any acne remedy that you hear about. If something or someone caters to their skin condition using a specific remedy or element, then it does not mean that it will work for you too. Everyone has their own reason of acne growing, out of which, 90% of the acne conditions are caused due to the hormonal disturbance. This is another reason why this disorder is mainly seen among teenagers, who are passing through their puberty stage. Recently, there have been studies that show that acne has been increasingly affecting the skin of the women of aged 40 or more.

Hormonal therapies are carried out for the people who experience it due to the different things happening inside their body. The intensity of inflammation, redness, blemishes, and pimples, differ from person to person, mainly depending on their bodily changes respectively. To treat your acne from the core, all you need is an advice from a dermatologist or a doctor, who can guide you well about your condition. The testosterone, which is the androgenic hormone, chiefly stimulates the oil glands present on the face.

The excessive oil production on the face ultimately leads to the downfall of the health of the skin. Therefore, if you don't have acne and want to prevent it, then cater to the oil present on your face by performing a regular cleansing routine to ensure a clear skin. When the pores get clogged, the pimples start forming on the face, causing inflammation and then leaving scars when it ends. In most cases, the disturbance continues for years and the case turns chronic with the passage of time. You need to know the difference between the mild and chronic forms of acne before you apply anything to soothe the area.

The mild form of acne is highlighted near the menstrual cycle of women, and for men, its somewhere near their puberty years. Following a dermatologist verified acne treatment is the safest action to take towards your acne.

A cleansing routine followed by the application of an acne lotion, made with Benzoyl Peroxide, or sulfur, for your specific skin type. Whatever your case is, you should go in for a professional consultation before choosing a product.

Easy Ways to Get Rid of Back Acne

Dealing with pimples and acne alone is like fighting a war with something you don't know when will pop up out of the blue. Thus, it especially gets tough for the teenagers. But, the situation further worsens when the pesky acne begins to breakout on the back as well. Thus, it is also sometimes known as bacne.

Bacne is brought about by the same element that triggers facial acne. It includes overactive oil organs, abundant dead skin cells, and expansion of pimple creating organisms. The excess of oil and dead skin usually gets trapped inside the follicle or the pores causing them to block. This turns into a blackhead and then into a pimple if the bacteria invade. Thus, to help dispose of back acne, there are various powerful home solutions that can be useful. Here are a few to begin with.

1. Oatmeal

Who doesn't love oatmeal for a delicious breakfast? But, were you aware of the fact that they work as a natural cleanser for your skin? Certainly not, right? Well, these little fellas cleanse the skin pores and absorb the excess oil, which helps to treat acne. Thus, it can also be used as an exfoliator to calm the inflamed skin.

Just add a tbsp of oatmeal in a small amount of water to form a thick paste. In circular motions, massage the affected area with the paste. Allow it to sit for approximately 10 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water. Or, add a cup of oatmeal to your bathtub and soak in it for a 30 minutes daily.

2. Apple cider vinegar

Another great ingredient for back acne remedy is apple cider vinegar. It can be easily found in most of the kitchens. This one has been known to do wonders when it comes to skin problems and bacne is no exception to it. ACV, a miraculous ingredient helps to balance the pH level of the skin and thus naturally prevent breakouts.

All you need to do is blend apple cider vinegar with water in 1:2 ratio in a spray bottle. Before you go to bed spray it on your back and leave it on for 20-25 minutes before washing it off. Store the bottle with the mixture in the fridge. Alternatively, you can also apply apple cider vinegar on your back with the help of a cotton ball too. The choice is yours.

3. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of melaleuca alternifolia, a native plant of Australia. For years it has been known for its anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties. Therefore, today it is widely used for the treatment of skin infections in athletes. Whereas, in the case of back acne, when tea tree oil is applied onto the skin it helps to kill the bacteria that causes bacne. Moreover, at the same time, it evenly treats the breakouts.

So, mix 2-3 drops of tea tree oil with a cup of water and with the help of cotton ball apply the solution to the affected area. Let it dry and store the solution for further application. If possible repeat this process 1-2 times a day and also before going to bed. Be cautious of using it undiluted. It may lead to irritation, redness, blistering, itching, and over dryness.

4. Baking soda

Baking soda's amphoteric properties makes it act as both acid and base that helps to balance the pH levels of the skin excellently. Whereas, its antiseptic as well as mild anti-inflammatory properties help to cure skin irritation and swelling due to acne. Apart from them, it acts as the perfect exfoliator to get rid of the dirt and dead skin to leave the skin smooth, clean and bright.

But, be careful of not using it for treatment more than twice a week. High concentration of alkaline presence can be too harsh for the skin. To make the scrub, mix 2tbsp of baking soda with enough water to make a thick paste. Gently scrub this paste onto the back and the other affected area for relief. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse using cold water.

Other notable ingredients also include aloe vera, witch hazel, lavender oil, lemon, and Epsom salt. So, from now on start looking for ingredients in your kitchen because they can considerably change the way you look at life. The above natural home remedies will help you get rid of back acne. However, if the problem still persists, do make sure to consult a doctor. Stay safe, stay healthy!

Some Common Types of Acne

Though acne is a universal problem, it is commonly noticed that everyone's acne is different. This is because they are of different types and will even be different at different life periods. The following are its common types:

Acne vulgaris -

Acne vulgaris is a common type, involving blockage and/or inflammation of hair follicles and their accompanying sebaceous gland. It can present as non-inflammatory lesions, inflammatory lesions, or a mixture of both, affecting mostly the face but also the back and chest because of densest population of sebaceous follicles.

Acne vulgaris is characterized by non-inflammatory, open or closed comedones and by inflammatory papules, pustules, and nodules. Comedones are small white or dark bumps on the skin, which are plugs of sebum and dead skin stuck in the openings of follicles. A comedo may be open (blackhead) or closed (covered by skin - whitehead) and may appear with or without acne. This type of acne can happen anywhere on the face or body and can range from very mild to quite severe.

Cystic acne -

This is a severe form of acne vulgaris as there is lot of inflammation, and large, painful blemishes (or cysts). Acne cysts occur deeper in the skin than typical pimple, take weeks to heal, and can cause a lot of damage to the skin.

Acne rosacea -

Though not a form of acne vulgaris, it is sometimes hard to distinguish from it. It is confined to the center of the face - cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead. Acne is all too common in the teen years but rosacea typically doesn't appear before age 30. It is more common in people with fair skin. Interestingly, it is more common in women but men tend to develop more severe forms. If rosacea isn't treated, it can progress and the redness and bumpiness becomes more severe.

We don't know exactly what causes rosacea but there are some triggers that include sun exposure, eating spicy foods, drinking hot beverages or alcohol, and exposure to extremely hot or cold weather. Emotional stress is another major trigger.

Acne cosmetica -

Products like makeup, creams and moisturizers, and even certain hair care products cause this type of facial acne. It is a type of comedonal acne. One will have to stop using the offending cosmetic or hair product to really see improvement of the skin, when its treatment is started.

Excoriated acne -

At some point or another, most people have given in to the temptation to pick at a blemish. But sometimes, the picking can severely damage skin tissue and most of women with acne frequently do it. Chronic sufferers of excoriated acne tend to be people who cannot control their urge to scratch or pick at their skin. They may feel compelled to pick at the skin. The constant squeezing and picking can cause open sores. When these sores scab up, they lend themselves to more picking, leading to a vicious cycle.

Acne mechanica -

This type of acne is caused when there is excess heat, pressure or friction on the skin. This is most common on the body but can occur on the face, too. Also called sports acne, it is common in young athletes -- thanks to helmets, athletic pads and sweat bands. Anything that traps heat and rubs against the skin can trigger acne mechanica. A mild form of this type of acne can clear itself when the offending trigger is taken away.

Acne conglobata -

Usually found in male, it is the most severe type of acne. It is characterized by several large lesions interconnected across the face. There are also widespread blackheads reported with this type of acne. This is type is known to cause severe skin damage and scarring over time.

Acne fulimans -

Also known as acute febrile ulcerative acne, it is a severe form of acne, which can occur after unsuccessful treatment for acne conglobata. The condition is thought to be an immunologically induced disease, in which elevated level of testosterone causes a rise in sebum and population of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. However, it is a rare type of acne.

It mainly affects young men and comes on very abruptly. It is different in that it usually comes with a fever and aching joints.

The bottom line -

Undoubtedly, acne is a daily nuisance for millions & millions of people all over the planet. Therefore, it's important to quickly choose a treatment that is suitable for the specific type of acne and get started as soon as possible!

Acne is a common problem that affects millions of people all over the world. If we know its common types, we will be better equipped to manage them effectively.

Effective Management of Acne

Acne is one of the most common skin disorders, affecting people of all races and ages. It is a chronic inflammatory disease involving the pilosebaceous unit of the skin.

Its prevalence among those aged 12 to 24 years is estimated to be 85%, although it can persist beyond young adulthood despite treatment. The disease is more common and more severe in males than in females.

Acne can be effectively treated but its response may sometimes be slow. There are some common principles of its management, which include following:

Don't scratch or pick the spots.
Avoid excessively humid conditions such as working in an unventilated kitchen or tropical vacations as much as possible.
Stop smoking because nicotine increases sebum retention, forming comedones (blackheads and whiteheads).
Minimize the application of oils and cosmetics to the affected skin.
Avoid sunburn and protect your skin outdoors using a sunscreen and protective clothing.
Avoid abrasive skin treatment, which is likely to aggravate both comedones and inflammation.
Follow a low-glycaemic, low-protein and low-dairy diet. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Management of Acne -
The three steps in the management of acne are required for its success:

Establishing the type and severity of acne.
Selecting medication appropriate for the patient's condition and skin type. In general, patients with oily skin benefit from solutions or gels, while those with dry skin do better with creams, lotions, or ointments.
Educating the patient about the disease, the different types of medications and their side effects, and expectations for improvement that are realistic.
Mild Acne -
Its management includes the following:

Gentle cleansing of the affected area with warm water and a mild soap.
Application benzoyl peroxide.
Application salicylic acid.
If above treatments do not work, see your doctor, who can give you a prescription for stronger lotions or creams and, if necessary, antibiotic lotion.
Moderate to Severe Acne -

Its management includes the following:

Application of benzoyl peroxide.
Drainage of large pimples and cysts by a doctor.
Application of prescription antibiotic gels, creams, or lotions.
Application of prescription retinoids.
Application of azelaic acid.
Taking prescription oral antibiotics
Taking prescription oral retinoids (such as isotretinoin).
Laser Resurfacing of Acne Scars -
Acne vulgaris frequently results in scarring. Acne scars can lead to physical disfigurement, having profound psychosocial impact on persons suffering from them. Early and effective treatment of acne is the best means to minimize and prevent acne scarring.

The technique of laser resurfacing requires to direct short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin, precisely removing skin layer by layer. This popular procedure is also called lasabrasion, laser peel, or laser vaporization.

It burns the face to create a new skin surface and reduce acne scars, but complete remodeling takes about 18 months. It has been noticed that up to 45% of all patients have temporary changes in skin color. But infections are rare. The procedure is up to 80% effective for shallow scars. But deep scars can be treated in several ways before or during laser resurfacing.

The Bottom Line -

Acne affects 85% of all adolescents and about 12% of adult women. Although it is a benign condition, acne can cause considerable morbidity, including pain, discomfort and scarring. It can also lead to depression and anxiety resulting in poor self-esteem. Laser resurfacing is emerging as an effective new treatment for acne scars.

Acne is a common skin condition that affects 85% of all adolescents and 12% of adult women. Besides morbidity, it may have a profound psycho-social impact on individuals suffering from it. And, therefore, it is important to manage it properly.

The real shame is that neither the medical establishment nor the pharmaceutical industry are really interested in finding a cure for root causes of acne. This is because it is big business for the companies that make stuff and the doctors and practitioners that prescribe the stuff. So what are your options, continue to follow the lead of the doctors and throw away your hard earned money on remedies that are not really designed to make the acne disappear permanently or find the ones that would offer the permanent cure.

The Acne Cure through a Holistic Approach

Acne Treatment Made Possible

Acne is the most common skin condition faced by many teenagers in their teenage years, and can also occur on the skin of adults.

It is commonly said that acne occurs mostly on females, which is entirely wrong. Acne is an overall problem as well by men at all stages of life. Some people have acne even when they passed their teenage and are still victims of acne when they have become adults. The reasons acne occurs in both men and women are quite different but sometimes they may also vary; for men, an abnormal production of some hormones may trigger acne.

There are many causes that can trigger acne. It is possible for acne being mild, intense, or painful, depending on the skin condition and the kind of environment the person works in. Those who live and work in a polluted environment are more prone towards acne instead of those who work in a good clean environment. When the bacteria which is sebum, reacts on oily skin, it instantly starts to blog the pores on the skin surface and causes acne, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes and other skin conditions which all come under acne.

Acne not only can cause pain and some suffering, but also lowers self-esteem and confidence as he or she might be conscious about their looks. Acne treatment is a must and there are many treatments available for acne such as over the counter medicines, ointments etc., antibiotics, gels and lotions, scrubs and cleansers, and other things. Although, from most of them it is better to stay away. Most times to opt for natural remedies is a better outcome.

Acne Affects Both Sexes

It is commonly said that acne occurs mostly in women, which is entirely wrong. In men, there is sometimes abnormal production of some hormones which may trigger production of acne. Other conditions like working in a polluted environment, taking too much stress, are other things that can cause acne to erupt in a person.

It has also been found that in comparison to females men's acne is much more intense as men contain hormones called testosterone, where as women have the same hormone but in smaller quantity. Testosterone plays a key role in developing male reproductive tissues such as the testis and prostate, as well as promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased muscle and bone mass, and the growth of body hair.

The facial skin irritates easily because of its sensitivity, more so than normal skins. It is very important that men use the right kind of tools when shaving and the right blade and shaving cream.

Tips For Acne Removal and Treatment

There are safe and effective ways to treat acne with herbal and natural techniques. Of all the evidence, natural acne treatment is the only thing that works. Avoid all skin creams unless they are all made from natural ingredients.

Face cleansing is the most important thing an acne sufferer should take care of. If the face is clear of excessive oil and bacteria, then the chances of acquiring acne becomes reduced. A non-oily and good face wash cleanser is best being used and rinsed with clean water.

Rinse effected area twice daily and pat dry. The 2nd rinse is best before going to bed. Avoid cleansing too often, this can irritate the skin even more. In the morning massage raw honey ("Manuka" if possible), with your fingertips over your face, then just rinse off. The honey will remove excess oil, but at the same time leaves the skin moisturized.

Tee tree oil has some famous ingredients for acne treatment. It not only reduces acne, it is also good for other skin problems, like blemishes, wrinkles, blackheads, whiteheads etc. Tea tree oil is most beneficial and often even better than benzyl peroxide in treating acne; it leaves the skin clear and smooth.

Dip a cotton ball or swab into lemon juice which is disinfectant, tab on to affected area and rinse with clean water.

Apple cider vinegar can help your skin in many ways. One reason vinegar is very helpful in treating skin disorders is that it has a pH which is nearly the same as healthy skin. So, applying apple cider vinegar helps to normalize the pH of the skin.

Aloe-Vera is very soothing and reduces inflammation and redness. You can apply the gel to your skin, massage it in with your fingers. To do this several times per day can also be helpful. Use the gel straight from a growing plant for best results.

Any of those treatments can work for you. It is a matter of which one to choose. It is a matter of trial and error because of different skin types.

Other Things That Help

The wrong diet as well can worsen your skin condition. Avoid most soft drinks, eat more fruit, green leafy vegetables, green tea, nuts, fish oil, krill oil, omega-3, eggs etc. Drink a reasonable amount of water to keep the skin hydrated. Water should always be your first choice of beverage; it outperforms all other drinks for thirst.

Over lathering your body when you wash or shower with all the harsh soaps, shampoos and cleansers, tends to remove the protective sebum which are beneficial fats that your body uses to protect your skin. Exercise can help with blood circulation and releases stress which also can cause acne.

Most shaving creams contain many chemicals and toxins. It is best to use natural, toxin free shaving cream. The same applies if the skin is excessive dry. A natural shower shampoo and after shower moisturizer be used to keep the skin moisturized. Stay away from all creams that contain chemicals and toxins, use natural products only.

Love Yourself and Live Healthy

In large part, we are in control of our health, not our doctors - and taking control of your health doesn't really depend on whether or not you have medical conditions. Taking control of your health means developing the best habits and having discipline.

The most important thing you can do is educate yourself. Learn about your health and how you can take care of your body. Having a healthy body gives you a healthy heart. Sometimes it's as easy as just finding different ways of doing things.

Here are some tips to keep your body healthy:

1. You need to take a really good vitamin. Does that mean it must be expensive? No. I mean one that is 100% natural and will address your body's daily nutritional supplemental needs.

2. You need to keep your body moving. We are supposed to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. The best way to monitor that is to have a walking monitor that can be clipped to your belt or pants. When you get your heart pumping you are getting your body moving and that will get your body in better shape all around.

3. You need to eat more vegetables and less processed foods. The microwave is not your friend. We have to get back to making dinners instead of using processed foods that are easy and quick. I fall into that category. I'm retraining myself to make better choices for my family.

Here a tip: On Sundays, why not make it a family fun cooking day? Get everyone in the kitchen and make 5 dinners for the week, then put them in the freezer when cooled. During the week, pull out a dinner from the freezer and leave it in the fridge to thaw while at work or school. It is something to get used to, but it can make Sundays very memorable and fun.

These are simple changes but they could save you or someone you love from something very serious. It only takes a few good changes and you can have a healthier life.

Set goals and work on your mind and thought patterns. You have to believe that you love yourself enough to be healthy. Learning to accept what you can't change, but striving to change what you can, is the key.

You'll succeed in living healthy when you are comfortable with yourself and make healthier choices.

The Biggest Time-Waster In Quitting Sugar

Are you a woman between 30 and 50 years old? Have you ever felt "stuck" on sugar? Have you ever described yourself as addicted to it?

Most importantly, have you wanted to quit sugar for some time now but had trouble getting around to doing that?

I'm convinced that the biggest time-waster when it comes to getting away from sugar once and for all is... waiting till you feel ready.

What Stands In Your Way?

Maybe you've eaten sugary foods - of one sort or another - to handle the stress you're feeling. Many of us have done that, so it's nothing to feel embarrassed about doing.

Yet it's a self-perpetuating process.

Knowing - or fearing - that stresses will show up and not wanting to quit because of that is a virtual guarantee that you'll stay stuck. Even if it's not a fully conscious plan, it is still a plan to use sugar to handle the stress.

But that's a never-ending battle! Stress of some type will always be there. And so will sugar. This is the U.S., after all.

Why You Should Quit Sugar Now

Here's a true statement: The sooner you quit sugar, the sooner your brain chemicals and your blood glucose will be more stable.

Stable, you think, what's so great about that?

As unsexy as stability may sound, what makes it great is that it will help you react less to any given stress in the first place.

A Tip From a Top Endurance Coach

My endurance coach - the late, fantastic Jim Karanas - had much to say about the pain associated with hard training. Here's one point he frequently made about training:

It's not that the pain goes away, but that you become less reactive to it.

This applies very well to stress. "Less reactive" is a perfect place to be when stress comes up - just as it is when the inevitable pain of tough training comes upon you.

Said another way, "It's not that (the stress) doesn't hurt, it's just that it doesn't matter." You can create that less reactive state of mind for yourself if you stop procrastinating on quitting sugar.

Imagine being less reactive - unruffle-able - when stressed. How perfect does that sound?

A Valuable Get-Started Tip For You

Quit sugar NOW! Start by eating protein with absolutely everything you eat. Make sure the protein is REAL protein: shrimp, chicken, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt with 18 or more grams of protein per serving, and others.

Avoid protein imposters: nuts, cheese, quinoa.

Don't expect the small amount of protein in leafy greens or other vegetables to do the trick for you. The brain needs more help here. Really.

Instead, use vegetable-based protein powders if you want to avoid animal products. Don't cheat your brain of protein when you're trying to quit sugar.

Protein won't make the stress go away, of course, but it's a good first step in helping you become less reactive to it.

Flaxseed is a source of healthy fat, antioxidants, and fiber; modern research has found evidence to suggest that flaxseed can also help lower the risk of diabetes, cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure.

Blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries contain anthocyanins, which protect against high blood pressure.

Red cabbage, eggplant skin, and purple grapes also contain anthocyanins, which protect against high blood pressure.

Halibut, spinach and plain nonfat yogurt are high in magnesium and potassium which fight against high blood pressure.

Cranberries can help raise HDL which reduces heart disease plus this juice decreases clogging of the arteries by preventing plaque from forming.

A red apple a day really does keep the doctor away! Apples reduce LDL which lowers the risk of heart disease. The antioxidants are in the peels not the juice.

Cooked tomatoes are very high in lycopene which is an antioxidant compound that reduces coronary disease risks.

None of these can ultimately replace medicine prescribed by a doctor however, we can certainly take an active part in the overall care of our health by consuming natural, healthy foods. This can possible prevent some conditions where medicine would otherwise have to be prescribed. Happy eating and healthy feeling!

The Biggest Mistake In Sugar Addiction

My biggest mistake with sugar was actually a series of several mistakes. Are you making them, too?

First was my Mindset Mistake: I resisted the idea of having to give up sugar. Yes, I knew I was addicted to it but was sure I wouldn't have to quit.

Second was my Attitude Mistake: I started looking for loopholes. Believe me, no one ever looked harder for a sugar loophole than I did, so I can say with confidence there isn't one. But I didn't believe that back then!

Third was my Behavior Mistake, which of course was a direct outgrowth of the first two: I used Sneaky Sugars. A new and popular item at that time was "all fruit" jelly - as if that wouldn't have an addictive effect on me. I'd buy and eat it by the jarful. Another was a fake ice-cream-type dessert that had me at "hello" - hooked on the first spoonful.

Many trending sugars are available now, showing how sneaky the food industry can be, along with some old faithful entries: agave, coconut sugar, maple syrup, honey - and Organic Sugar. 'Cause that doesn't affect the brain; it's organic... !

If I could start all over, I'd be more Zen about sugar: No attachments. No aversions.

I'd accept that my addiction meant needing to give up sugar - and give it up much sooner.

I've never regretted quitting sugar but do regret the time I wasted - and the frustrations I caused myself - by not facing my addiction to it for real, once and for all. No one knew this stuff back then.

Buy a Delicious New Superfood to Add to Your Diet

It can sound unusual to add pollen to your diet, as it is often unheard of compared to honey. However, it is a completely natural byproduct of the insect that is packed with nutritious value. The first thing to think about before purchasing is where exactly it comes from. A plant's anthers produce pollen, which is then collected by the bees. This then mixes with a secretion of nectar and carried to the hive where it is placed inside the honeycomb cells.

To harvest the pollen, beekeepers will place traps on the hives. As the insects return, they are forced to go through these traps, which will take part of the pollen and often leads to the insects returning to the flowers to collect more. This will quickly add up to many granules which will be sold through health food stores to customers. You will then be able to purchase the granules and add them into your daily diet.

Each of these granules is completely natural and produced by the insects themselves. This is a nearly perfect food source as there are twenty-two amino acids inside. This makes it a great source of protein which can be a great supplement for vegetarians, though the product is not vegan. You will also be able to find B12 inside, which can be easily left out of traditional diets.

There are many, many benefits to adding the pollen to your diet. Some of the proven benefits are that it can reduce inflammation, act as an antioxidant, protect against liver toxicity, boost immune system, relieve stress, and promote healing. There are many other health benefits that you can find online. Also, you can learn more about the product through the retailer you choose to purchase from.

Though it is often sold as a weight loss supplement, there is little scientific evidence backing up this claim. However, since the granules are proven to reduce inflammation and boost energy, they do make a great source when it comes to supplementing and adding to your weight loss program. They also contain many of the vitamins and minerals you may be missing from your diet, which can benefit your overall health. So you may not be able to thank the bees for a miracle weight loss program, but you can thank them for an easy way to get added nutrients in your diet.

Almost anyone can benefit from this bee byproduct; however, if you have had an allergic reaction to stings, honey, or other similar products, it may be something you would like to avoid. If you do wish to use the product, many choose to add the granules to foods such as cottage cheese and yogurt. As you supplement your diet, you will better be able to tailor the number of granules you would like to add to your diet. If you would like better instructions on how to mix your granules into your diet, you can contact the company you are purchasing through or a nutritionist.

Overall, bee pollen is a great and easy way to get added nutrients in your diet with little to no effort. After purchasing a bag of these granules, you can mix them into your everyday foods for a delicious extra kick. These will quickly become your favorite superfood and your body will thank you.
